Although it described itself at the time as for 'homosexual men and lesbian women', the Dutch Schorer Foundation came up with some particularly interesting bisexual postcards in 2001.

One of the things they had realised earlier than many 'lesbian and gay' organisations was that fewer young people identified as either lesbian or gay while at the same time at least as many of them were being sexual with their own sex.

What suits you?

Join the club: coming in

Lipstick lesbians, tomboys, gay girls, 7152-ladies,[1]Group 7152, named after the 'box number' for its original 1971 newspaper ad, is the Netherlands' oldest group for bisexual and lesbian women. coc[2]Founded in 1946, COC is the oldest gay rights organisation still around today. girls, habibahs,[3]From Arabic, a female sweetheart or lover. bi girls, party girls, LGBs, sm dykes, intellectual students … Who are you? What suits you?

'What suits you?'

Do you have the courage to experiment to find what you like? To flit from group to group? To find what really suits you? Long hair or a short haircut, a steady relationship or better single, only with girls or sometimes with boys, sometimes tough but sometimes vulnerable, trainers or high heels. Be who you are. Be what you are. Be what you want.

… be who you are

I have only steady[4].. with the implication of monogamous.. relationships

Many guys have dreams. Maybe you also think that a relationship is lifelong and that the two of you will always remain monogamous. Many guys therefore never use condoms with their regular partner. They think they are not at risk, maybe you also think this.

'I have only steady relationships'

Research shows that the reality is different: Many 'steady' relationships only last a few months and many guys also have sex with others. That is why you should keep thinking about safe sex. So never just leave condoms out. Dreaming is wonderful, but keep an eye out for reality

.. and therefore do not have safe sex.

Note that both have photos of four people in a context that suggests they are – or have been – partners. She has photos of two female-presenting people,[5]One of whom is leaning on the a male-looking shoulder! and two male-presenting people[6]Because of how they're arranged, it's not immediately obvious that the third in her row is the same person as the third in his, but.. while he has one female-presenting person and three male-presenting people..

.. and that three of them appear in both sets of photos.

This is a pair of bisexual ads, even though "bi" is only used once in one ad and not at all in the other, that any 'lesbian and gay' organisation could – and should – have been able to produce.

Why didn't they?

There were at least three others in the series:

A postcard of a young woman resting her head against the shoulder of another woman with the headline 'girl 2 girl'

'girl 2 girl' signposted to some groups like COC.

A postcard of a young man with another man about to bite his ear with the headline 'do I really want this?'

'do I really want this?' encouraged people to say no to sexual things they didn't want to do.

A postcard of a young man with another slightly older man behind his shoulder with the headline 'he will know it'

'he will know it' suggested to newly out / sexually active young men that they shouldn't necessarily listen to older men when deciding whether or not to have safer sex.

What happened to..?

Schorer went bankrupt in 2012 when two contracts worth a total of over a million Euro from the government's National Institute for Health and Environment agency and the city of Amsterdam were not renewed.
